The Analyze phase is a critical step in DMAIC to transform data into insights, laying the groundwork for informed decision-making.

This pathway covers core concepts and techniques to investigate process performance and identify root causes:

  • Graphical Analysis: Visual interpretation of data using Histogram, Pareto, Run Chart, Box Plot and Scatter plot to spot trends, patterns, and anomalies within the process data.
  • Hypothesis Testing: Formulate and test hypotheses using statistical techniques, enabling practitioners to discern between random variation and statistically significant differences.
  • Component of Variation / ANOVA: Understanding variation in process outputs through Analysis of Variance (ANOVA) and other techniques, to pinpoin areas for improvement.

Other concepts based on business needs and emerging analytical techniques can be added to this pathway. By the end of this pathway, practitioners will be well-equipped to identify root causes and pave the way for the Improve phase with solid evidence and statistical confidence.
