A3 Problem-solving

This course teach you how to use A3 to solve a problem. The A3 template we use follows 7 steps:

  1. Background (why we should solve this issue)
  2. Current condition (neutral facts describing where we are today)
  3. Goals (the specific outcome required to succeed)
  4. Analysis (identify possible causes and prove the true root cause(s))
  5. Countermeasure(s) (identify possible solutions and choose based on your decision criteria)
  6. Implementation plan (actions, responsible and timeline)
  7. Follow-up (ensure lasting results using monitoring and response plan)

The course combines online training (4 hours) and web meetings (2 x 2 hours).

When passing the exam (unlimited number of attempts) you will be A3 and 5 Why / Fishbone certified (earning international credits: 1 and 2 PDUs, respectively).

Certification by Lean Tech's partner GoLeanSixSigma. Their online training have achieved the highest scores, and participants describe their courses as fun, accessible, affordable, practical, easy to understand and effective.

In the first web meeting, we review the A3 template and you learn how to follow each of the 7 steps to solve a problem.

The next web meeting is about 1 month later. We will review all the participants' A3. You get answers to your questions and feedback on your A3.

You have about 1 month to practice A3. Choose a problem that is realistic to solve in 1 month. If you have not completed all the 7 steps for solving the problem, no worries: We will go through what you have.

  • Prepare an action plan
  • Follow up using Monitoring and Response plan to create lasting results

    • Make root causes measurable
    • Prioritize root causes
    • Use 5 Why to find true root causes
    • Prove root cause using observation
    • Prove root cause by turning on / off
    • Evaluate & prioritize solutions
    • Implement solutions
    • Ensure lasting results through follow-up
    • Create a Monitoring plan and Response plan
 

You get a workbook with tasks to complete during the web meeting.

Practical information

The course is arranged on request from companies with 6-15 participants. Courses can be tailored to your business needs, and your own data can be used in examples and assignments. 

Open courses are arranged according to the course calendar. 

Online course & online course with coaching can be started whenever you want. 

Lunch, refreshments and drinks during classroom training are included, and you receive a course certificate upon completion.

Location

Classroom training is organized at the locations Lean Tech disposes at Lillestrøm (Svelleveien 33). Good access to parking spaces. It's 2 km from Lillestrøm train station.

Lean Tech has an agreement with Thon hotels and can set up courses elsewhere if needed. It is also possible to arrange business courses at the Company's location.

Instructor

Instructor Sissel Pedersen Lundeby is IASSC (International association for Six Sigma certification) accredited trainer associate (only-one in Norway per August 2019):

"This accreditation publically reflects that you have met the standards established by IASSC such that those who participate in a training program led by you can expect to receive an acceptable level of knowledge transfer consistent with the Lean Six Sigma belt Bodies of Knowledge as established by IASSC."

Sissel has a Master in Chemical Engineering from NTNU (Norwegian University of Science and Technology) and 20 year's experience within manufacturing and environmental technology. In 2002 she started working at a US company where she was introduced to Six Sigma and completed her Black Belt certification. In 2017, she was also certified Black Belt through IASSC.

Sissel has positive experience using Lean Six Sigma to improve and focuses on measurable results. The courses use practical, recognizable examples and communicate Lean Six Sigma in a way that is easy to understand.
